PRACTICUM

Practicum is a no-nonsense boot camp-style training in which students do whatever it takes to run a healing center. Under direct job-shadow training of an approved therapist, students work with clients, do diagnosis, apply therapies, mix medications, clean rooms, take calls, do administration, engage in counselling, assist with marketing. Hand skills, technical skills, people skills, job skills, bedside skills, theoretical and all practical skills are employed and tested by your supervisory team. Practicum is never pretty but it is the one schooling experience that will shape your future (and that of your patients) for years to come. You learn to think on your feet, you learn to pray and trust, you learn to cry inside and remain the confidant, effective healer your patients need. You learn to get over your sh*t and become a professional to be counted on when clients need you most. You learn to keep your core, to maintain your energies, to be always aligned and in tune. You learn to be a true healer and someone who can run her/his own business.

Some practicums earn a small wage, but most require students to pay a reasonable fee for the expert guidance of professional teachers. Fees are often very reasonable because some clinic costs can be offset when you actually make money by treating paying patients.

Duration 500 hours:

  • ·         4-months, 6 days per week, to complete theoretical course work
  • ·         Depending on availability of clients in clinic, 2 to 4 months’ residency to complete required practicum contact hours. Preferably running concurrent with initial training but it is not a requirement.

2016 – Required theoretical courses, sans electives, are listed below.

Theoretical courses that require a practical element are indicated with the suffix, (theory). The suggested hours of study is based on how long it usually takes to read the material three times. Time to study for the tests or do assignments is not estimated. The true amount of time spent on a course will vary from person to person. As a general rule, if a course lists 3hours as time required, budget a full day of study, developing understanding, taking tests and completing assignments.
